Friday 16th September 2011 - Golf & Professional Development
Our Stiletto Golf day has become a regular fixture in the Women in Logistics calendar. Despite very few members being experienced golfers, we found once again that the lessons were a great icebreaker to get everyone relaxed and chatting. As usual, the lunch was delicious and there was plenty of time for networking with new friends and longstanding acquaintances from across the sector.
The afternoon began with a presentation entitled ´Managing Your Career´ from Matt Friedland & Jane Burkitt of Pepsico. Matt summed this up by explaining the "PIE" concept which is used effectively at several big companies: your propensity to progress is defined by a combination of your ´Performance´, ´Image´ and ´Exposure´. We stopped for birthday cake, celebrating 3 years since Women in Logistics was founded by Ruth Waring. And finally, Helen Caton-Hughes gave an interactive seminar about mentoring and Ruth ran a raucous speed-networking session in a fun format which provided good food for thought. Overall, this event was very well-received and it can be summed up in the feedback from one of our attendees: "A very good fun networking event, with a nice cross section of people from different parts of the logistics world."
The 3rd Birthday Party !
Our party was a lavish social event held to celebrate Women in Logistics reaching over 2,000 members in just 3 years. We hosted three tables of ecstatic women (and one man) at the Village Hotel´s "Decades Explosion" party. Unfortunately, we missed out on the quiz prize (regrettably unable to remember the title of that B*witched classic ´C´est La Vie´) but the champagne just kept flowing (courtesy of our generous sponsor, Cargowise) and fuelled Ruth´s astonishing dancefloor stamina. All in all, a good time was had by all.
Wednesday 8th September 2011 - Pizza with Nola
A few members met up for supper with Nola Bransgrove, Chair of Women in Supply Chain Australia, whilst she was on holiday in the UK. It was interesting to compare notes on cargo, road safety and regulation and hear Nola's observations about how the vast expanses in Australia contrast with the hive of activity she saw at Dover, UK. We also introduced her to the excellent work of our chosen charity Transaid. You can read Nola's blog
